Common Root has a full day of activity happening Saturday, March 26th.
First up, our Self-Publishing Skillshare, led by artist and coloring book creator Lacey Losh.
1:30-3:30 PM – Bring your questions about self-publishing, share your ideas and meet other local authors, poets, creators and artists.
Perhaps you’re wondering:
-How long does the process take?
-What are some different paper types and binding options?
-How much money would it take to start?
-Do I need special software? What about file formats?
-Can I self-publish without digital files?
-How do I decide on a printer or publishing company?
-What about small-scale publishing (print-on-demand or zine publication)?
-What’s the deal with ISBN numbers?
-How can I market my publication?
These questions are just examples. The content of this skillshare will be based on the interests of those in attendance.
**REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED.** Please consider joining us again in August, for a repeat Self-Publishing Skillshare.
Open Hours will be hosted by Chelsea Sharp from 3:30 – 7 PM. You’re welcome to use our space and supplies to create, browse our local artists showcase, check out a book/DVD/zine etc. from our lending library and ask questions and learn more about Common Root.
At 7 PM Larry James will show a movie in our event room – “Maltese Falcon” starring Humphry Bogart as hard-boiled Detective Sam Spade. Co-starring Mary Astor, Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet. This is the 1941 classic that even if you haven’t seen it before, you’ll probably recognize several ‘cliches’. This is the movie that made them cliches. Stick around for the discussion afterward, about how attitudes and mores have changed in 75 years and what writers and producers did to get things past the censors of the time.
